CONVERT YOUR EXISTING ELECTRIC GEYSER TO SOLAR

The Elon 100 Solar PV Water Heating System is designed for compatible standard electric geysers, including suitable non-Kwikot models. It allows dedicated solar panels to supply DC electricity directly to the existing geyser element. No solar inverter or battery is required.

During the day, available solar energy is used to heat the water. Grid electricity remains available when there is insufficient sunlight, helping to ensure a reliable hot-water supply.

The Elon 100 features a manual efficiency dial that allows the user to control the balance between available solar energy and grid electricity. The dial does not adjust the water temperature—the geyser’s existing thermostat continues to control the water temperature.

SOLAR-PANEL CONFIGURATION

• Configuration: 4 panels connected in series – 4S1P
• Total solar-array capacity: 1,840 Wp
• Combined open-circuit voltage: 200.60 V DC
• String short-circuit current: 11.51 A
• Number of parallel strings: 1

ELON 100 SOLAR INPUT LIMITS

• Solar-voltage range: 20–250 V DC
• Maximum open-circuit voltage: below 250 V DC
• Maximum short-circuit current: below 20 A DC
• Maximum solar-array capacity: 4,000 Wp

The four-panel configuration remains within the Elon 100’s voltage, current and power limits. It also provides a suitable voltage allowance for the normal increase in panel voltage during cold weather.

A fifth 460 W panel cannot be connected in series. Five panels would produce a combined open-circuit voltage of approximately 250.75 V under standard test conditions, already exceeding the Elon 100’s limit before any cold-weather voltage increase.

This package should therefore be regarded as a complete four-panel series system.

GEYSER-ELEMENT MATCHING

For the 1.84 kWp solar array:

• A 2 kW geyser element is the best recommended match
• A 3 kW geyser element can also be used, with slightly lower solar-transfer efficiency
• A 4 kW element is supported by the Elon 100 but is not recommended for this four-panel package

The geyser element draws its full rated power whenever it heats using grid electricity.

IMPORTANT COMPATIBILITY INFORMATION

The Elon 100 is suitable for compatible standard electric geysers (Excluding Kwikot geysers) fitted with an appropriate thermostat arrangement. The geyser model, thermostat type, element rating, roof condition, installation location and available mounting area must be confirmed before installation.

The panels must be connected as one series string. Parallel connection is not permitted with these panels because the combined short-circuit current would exceed the Elon 100’s input limit.

Installation must be completed by a suitably qualified installer using correctly rated DC protection, isolation equipment and cabling.
