The Hanchu HESS-HY-S-12K-S is a powerful 12kW single-phase hybrid inverter designed for large residential properties, farms and small commercial applications requiring substantial backup power and solar generation capacity.

It intelligently combines solar-panel generation, 48V battery storage and grid electricity. The inverter can prioritise solar energy, recharge the batteries and supply connected loads, while retaining grid support when required. Although Hanchu Africa categorises this model under off-grid products, its technical datasheet provides both off-grid and on-grid output specifications.

The inverter delivers 12,000W of continuous rated output and offers peak output of up to 24,000VA for starting demanding appliances and motors. It supports motor loads of up to approximately 6HP and produces stable, pure sine-wave 230V AC power.

Two independent MPPT inputs provide up to 6,600W of solar capacity each, allowing a combined PV array of up to 13,200W. Each MPPT supports up to 22A input current, making the inverter suitable for modern high-current solar panels. The 152–425V MPPT operating range provides flexibility when designing the panel strings.

The 48V battery connection supports lithium-ion, lead-acid and user-defined battery settings. Charging and discharging current of up to 200A enables the inverter to work with substantial low-voltage battery banks. Communication with compatible lithium battery-management systems helps coordinate battery charging, discharging and protection.

A typical transfer time of approximately 10 milliseconds helps keep essential appliances operating during a grid interruption. Time-slot programming can also be used to charge the batteries during cheaper electricity periods and use stored energy when grid electricity is more expensive.

The IP65-rated enclosure protects against dust and water, making the inverter suitable for appropriate indoor or sheltered outdoor installation. Multiple built-in protection functions help protect the inverter, battery, solar array and connected loads. Up to six compatible units can be configured in parallel where additional output capacity is required.

Installation must be performed by a qualified solar electrician. Municipal approval, SSEG registration and an approved meter may be required when operating it as a grid-connected system or exporting energy.
