Important Information About Solar Borehole Pump Sizing
Solar borehole pumps are advertised according to their maximum pumping head. For example, an 80m pump can reach a maximum head of 80 metres, but at that height it will deliver very little or no water.
Simple sizing example:
- Borehole pumping water level: 50m
- Recommended pump rating: 80–100m
- Reason: A higher-rated pump provides sufficient pressure and water flow instead of operating near its maximum limit.
Remember: An 80m pump does not mean it will deliver its advertised water flow at 80m. The deeper the water must be pumped, the less water the pump can deliver.
For best results, always choose a pump with sufficient capacity above your actual pumping depth. Final sizing must also consider the height of the storage tank, pipe friction and the required water flow.
About an 80m AC/DC Submersible Borehole Solar Water Pump

Model number: VC-3AC/DCP3.5-80-96-720 STAINLESS STEEL SOLAR WATER PUMP
AC/DC CONTROLLER SERIES
An 80m AC/DC Submersible Borehole Solar Water Pump, VC-3DCP3.5-80-72-600 stainless steel solar water pump is a durable, efficient, and eco-friendly pumping solution powered by solar energy. These pumps are commonly used in agricultural irrigation, drinking water supply, livestock watering, and other off-grid water needs. The stainless steel construction makes them resistant to corrosion and ideal for long-term use in harsh environments.
Key Features of a 80m AC/DC Submersible Borehole Solar Water Pump:
- Solar-Powered:
- Operates using electricity generated by solar panels.
- Reduces dependence on conventional electricity or fuel, making it cost-effective and eco-friendly.
- Stainless Steel Construction:
- Resistant to rust and corrosion, suitable for pumping water in saline or hard-water conditions.
- Durable and long-lasting in outdoor or submerged environments.
- Types of Pumps:
- Submersible Pumps: Designed to be submerged in wells or water sources, suitable for deep wells or boreholes.
- Surface Pumps: Installed above ground for shallow water sources like rivers or tanks.
- Centrifugal Pumps: Used for high flow rate requirements.
- Positive Displacement Pumps: Suitable for delivering water under constant pressure.
- Energy Efficiency:
- Equipped with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controllers to optimize energy use from solar panels.
- Can operate even under low sunlight conditions with advanced motor designs.
- Applications:
- Agricultural irrigation (drip, sprinkler, and flood systems).
- Drinking water supply for rural or remote areas.
- Livestock watering systems.
- Pond or garden water features.
Advantages of an 80m AC/DC Submersible Borehole Solar Water Pump:
- Eco-Friendly: No greenhouse gas emissions; operates solely on renewable solar energy.
- Cost-Effective: Low operating costs after installation due to zero fuel or electricity dependency.
- Durability: Stainless steel construction ensures resistance to corrosion, wear, and harsh conditions.
- Versatility: Can be used in both deep and shallow water sources.
- Low Maintenance: Fewer moving parts reduce the need for frequent servicing.
Limitations:
- High Initial Cost: Solar panels and pump systems can be expensive upfront, though they pay off in the long run.
- Dependent on Sunlight: Performance depends on the availability of sunlight, requiring battery backup or water storage for overcast days.
- Installation Complexity: Proper setup, including alignment of solar panels, is critical for optimal performance.
Specifications to Consider:
- Flow Rate: Typically measured in liters per minute (L/min) or gallons per minute (GPM), based on irrigation or water supply needs.
- Lift Height: The maximum vertical height the pump can raise water, critical for deep wells.
- Power Requirements: Ensure compatibility between the solar panels, controller, and pump.
- Material Quality: Stainless steel grade (e.g., 304 or 316) impacts corrosion resistance.
- Warranty and Durability: Look for robust designs with extended warranties.
Working Principle:
- Solar Energy Conversion:
- Photovoltaic (PV) panels capture sunlight and convert it into DC electricity.
- Power Transmission:
- A controller regulates the power and supplies it to the pump.
- Water Pumping:
- The pump draws water from a source and delivers it to the required location.
